Drive Smarter helps secure RoSPA gold award for INS Innovation
Irlam-based nuclear specialist INS Innovation has won RoSPA’s coveted gold award for its management of occupational road risk. Key to its risk reduction programme has been ‘Drive Smarter’, a brand new online learning resource which INS introduced for 30 of its employees in the summer of 2007.
Each month, users have been watching an online film, reading a set of background notes and demonstrating their understanding and compliance by completing a set of multiple-choice questions.
INS health and safety manager Anthea Beaty said Drive Smarter had proved enjoyable and effective among employees using it. “As well as presenting driver behaviour, risk reduction and journey planning topics in an accessible and interesting way, Drive Smarter has managed to keep road safety high on the agenda, as our people are discussing each module and how they performed. A little healthy competition, backed up by some excellent incentives for those who do well, seems to be a successful formula for us.” she said.
Drive Smarter director Peter Baker said, “We congratulate INS on their terrific achievement. They have given us some excellent ideas for new topics to cover, and we will be rolling these out for their employees in the months to come.”
